U.S.-based gas carrier owner and operator Dorian LPG, which has been under the spotlight after it refused BW LPG’s takeover offer, has completed three financing agreements worth USD 65.1 million. The net proceeds from the batch have been used to refinance the shipowner’s loan facility with DNB Capital LLC. “Dorian LPG is well positioned to perform through the cycle, including upcoming environmental regulations, with a well-capitalized balance sheet and a fleet of modern fuel efficient VLGCs that have delivered premium returns,” John Hadjipateras, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dorian LPG, said.In the latest turn of events, BW LPG has called Dorian to return to the negotiating table saying that a number of the company’s shareholders, other than the BW Group, supported the deal. Hadjipateras explained that these shareholders represent less than 5% of the company’s outstanding shares.“In contrast, our board, whose members are beneficial owners of more than 25% of our outstanding shares, has unanimously concluded that BW LPG’s proposal undervalues Dorian and is not in the best interests of Dorian and its shareholders. To cite a few key financial metrics, the proposed transaction would be dilutive to Dorian’s shareholders’ earnings in 2018, would create a more leveraged enterprise from Dorian’s perspective and fails to recognize that Dorian’s equity contribution to the combined enterprise would exceed 50% of the total, based on 2018 relative EBITDA and existing debt levels,” he said.Commenting on the call to resume talks, Hadjipateras said Dorian never declined to engage with BW LPG. However, the company is more interested in discussing the acquisition of BW LPG’s ECO-ships.“Our board is always open to opportunities that would enhance value for our shareholders and we are in regular communication with them. BW LPG’s wish to have Dorian’s shareholders subsidize its fleet renewal is not a reason compelling enough to divert us from our strategy to serve our own shareholders,” he concluded.

From the moment she approached the net until she returned to the baseline, Shkudun jostled and bounced, her eyes focused intently on the chair umpire giving his monologue. The contrast between Shkudun and the three players that stood still while she hopped at the net is apparent in more than just a pregame habit. She said she played 10 years on the European pro circuit before her arrival on campus this fall and bolsters far more professional experience than her counterparts and teammates. While on tour she honed a powerful game that catapulted her into the top doubles and singles spots at SU, and a No. 37 NCAA Women’s Division I singles ranking. The heavy pace on Shkudun’s groundstrokes was a key difference in her and Salazar’s win against Cornell, a 7-5 slugfest that clinched the doubles point for SU in dramatic fashion. Shkudun stayed back and used her power to close points and force returns to Salazar at net, one of which Salazar drove for a cross-court winner on match point.“(Anna) has been in those situations,” said head coach Younes Limam after the meet. “She played at a high level before college and she did what she usually did … She played smart.”AdvertisementThis is placeholder textShkudun became the first Syracuse tennis player since 1993 to win the ITA Northeast Indoor Regional this fall, and is off to a 3-0 start in the spring singles season. However, life in college was an adjustment for the former pro.“It was a really big difference in the rhythm of life,” said Shkudun. “At first I struggled to get used to it … but now I’m getting into it, especially with study.”Shkudun found the support she needed to find her comfort zone from her teammates, many of whom are first-year students as well. The common grounds Shkudun and the freshman class share have contributed to a distinct team dynamic.Knutson, another power driven player, takes careful note of Shkudun, drawing insight from her play and strength from her vocal presence on the court.“(Anna) is kind of like a freshman,” said Shkudun’s freshman teammate Gabriela Knutson. “… We have a very similar game … I always try to make use of her energy and bring it to my game.”Shkudun pumped her fist and let out a yell when Salazar’s final slam secured SU the doubles point in front of a Drumlins Country Club crowd that came together in an uproar over the decisive play. The two partners returned to the net for their postgame handshake and hardly had a moment to catch their breath before the rest of their teammates mobbed them at the courtside bench.A moment made possible by Shkudun’s leap of faith into an atmosphere unlike any other she’s played in before.“Maybe I have to go and try something new,” said Shkudun of her thought process before deciding to leave the pro circuit behind. “I’m pretty sure I (made) a good decision.” Comments

Follow the Puck I’ve been a frontend developer for a decade, working on projects for companies like Macy’s Levi’s Jeans and Philips before I moved over to the marketing department where I’ve been ever since. In my spare time, I participate in professional taco eating competitions. John Demian Nobody can deny the fact that online stores have become a big part of our daily lives. I personally only do groceries shopping in traditional stores and shop online for everything else and by 2021 we will have an estimated of 2.1 billion users worldwide that do the same. With that kind of numbers, you might think there would be a lot of online stores. Well, you would be right! The competition is fierce and with so many competing companies and service provider will try and find every piece of advantage that they can muster. It’s about one of those advantages that I’m going to talk today.Ten years ago getting an online store up an running was far more difficult than it is today. You had to either build a platform from scratch or implement a self-hosted solution like Magento, X-cart or Prestashop. After that you’d have to manage the server, deleting logs, creating backups and always be on the lookout for the next surge of users that will get your site crashing in a matter of minutes.Things have changed a lot from those days and now you have better self-hosted platforms, better and bigger hosting, and you even get E-commerce SaaS providers like Shopify or ZentoShop that will get you started a lot faster. There are huge differences between going for a self-hosted store as opposed to getting a SaaS(software as a service). On one hand, with the self-hosted solutions, you will have the option edit and make it adapt to your product and service, an option that you wouldn’t really get otherwise. This is a huge part of why any technical person might lean towards a self-hosted store but it’s not only cakes and rainbows. As soon as you start looking into an e-commerce platform you’ll realize that it has a lot of dependencies and hosting requirements that you need to consider. And while the platform itself can be cheap, you’ll end up paying thousands of dollars in hosting and setup fees plus paying for an agency or developer to make the necessary updates and changes to your store. You’d think it stops here but it doesn’t. Over the course of a year, you’ll have to make several updates to both the plugins and the platform and you’ll want to make those updates as they are vital to your website’s security. With the e-commerce software as a service (SaaS) providers, things are easier. You get your shop up and running much faster and with almost no initial cost but you will have to pay a monthly fee, plugins are hard to come by and customization is hard but the biggest downside is the scaling issue. Most providers can up your monthly fee in exchange for support for more users but that will work up to a point and then you are on your own.Yet with all the options out there, most online shop owners still have difficulties getting their shop to the next level as without the proper infrastructure to support their shop, their shop will crumble at the slightest increase of traffic. It’s still not enough! The infrastructure behind the stores is one of the most important things to consider when launching your shop. Making sure you won’t have any downtimes is tricky and requires a lot of fidgeting on the server side to ensure your server can and will scale gracefully the next time you have yourself a flash sale and your site gets ‘assaulted’ by customers. Here’s the story of Zalora, one of the biggest fashion stores in Asia employing around 1500 people with a user base of over 20 million users. They have a cool mission statement: “fashion on demand, 24/7 at your doorstep”. Cool, right? But what exactly does that mean from a technical perspective? They have a number of digital outlets through their users can shop, from an online store to mobile apps for both iOS and Android. Those apps and the store need to be in constant communication both with themselves and with the warehouse to make sure all the orders are registered and the stock is updated. That will require a server that can handle thousands of concurrent requests, and if you ever had the unfortunate chance to be on a team that developed a service like that you’ll know that scaling is not easy nor cheap.Stage enter AWSZalora had a growth of about 100% year-to-year in the first 3 years and had to always chase down better hosting, faster loading time and deployments took forever so they decided to move their entire operation to the cloud. They wanted to build on the momentum that they had and having a store hosted on traditional servers would require an effort of biblical proportions.“We outgrew what the server world offered to us and it was the right time for us to switch over to a provider like AWS” — Karthik Subramanian –

Lewis Hamilton put on a display of domination at the French Grand Prix on Sunday to go 36 points clear in the Formula One world championship and stretch Mercedes’s winning run to 10 races. On a scorchingly hot afternoon in the south of France, Hamilton put the rest of the field in the shade as he led from start to finish to take his fourth win in a row and sixth of the season. The Briton finished 18 seconds ahead of Finnish team mate Valtteri Bottas, who was pushed hard at the end by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in a rare moment of tension, as Mercedes celebrated their 50th one-two finish.”We are creating history together and I’m so proud to be part of this team,” said Hamilton, who also won from pole last year at Le Castellet.”It wasn’t easy at all and everything is on the edge. I had quite big blisters on the front two tyres – but this has been the best start of the year.”The five-times world champion now has 79 career wins, 12 short of Michael Schumacher’s all-time record with 13 races remaining this season. He has 187 points to Bottas’s 151. Mercedes have won all eight races this year as well as the last two of 2018.Until the closing laps, the main thrill on Sunday was provided by a marshal who darted across the track to retrieve a broken bollard.Hamilton made a clean start, was 2.3 seconds clear of Bottas after six laps and continued to pull away despite complaining at one point that something had broken on his seat – a gripe undermined by the Briton lapping faster and faster.advertisementMax Verstappen was fourth for Red Bull while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel moved up from seventh on the grid to fifth and gained an extra point after pitting on the penultimate lap for fresh tyres to set the fastest lap.”This weekend, the biggest aim was to close the gap as much as possible and we failed,” said Vettel, now 76 points behind Hamilton the equivalent to more than three race wins.”We have to understand why some of the bits we brought didn’t work and hopefully we can try again and the track layout in Austria next week will go our way.”Spaniard Carlos Sainz finished sixth for McLaren ahead of Daniel Ricciardo for Renault, but the Australian was summoned to see stewards after the race.Kimi Raikkonen was eighth for Alfa Romeo with Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg ninth and Lando Norris 10th for McLaren after losing three places on the last lap. Also See:
