first_imgThe West African College of Nursing Liberia Chapter Friday, July 18, donated assorted medical equipment valued at US$500 to Redemption Hospital. This to help the hospital prevents health workers and others from contracting the deadly Ebola virus.The items included hand sanitizers, gloves, cotton of chloral, liquid and medicated soap, amongst others.Presenting the items, Prof. Angela Juaka Sawyer, president and Chapter Chair, said the gesture was to show love and care for all patients and health workers at the Redemption Hospital.Prof. Sawyer indicated that though the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOH&SW) is making numerous efforts in combatting the deadly virus, her organization also thought to assist and improve the wellbeing of health practitioners and others, especially in line with infection control.“As a health organization in West Africa, we contribute to the improvement of health care delivery within the Sub-region,” Prof. Sawyer said.Receiving the items, Dr. Mohammed Sankoh, Medical Director of Redemption, expressed gratitude to all members of WACN for the gesture and said Redemption belongs to the people of Liberia.According to Dr. Sankoh, the gesture signifies the collaboration they need as health workers in Liberia to fight the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. “This is what we were looking for as health practitioners in fighting this disease that is ravaging the lives of our people,” he said.He further stated that when they work together as health practitioners, they will prevent the further spread of the virus within Liberia and the Mano River Union basin, including Guinea and Sierra Leone.“You see, WACN did well, this is the time that one knows who is a true friend, especially in time of needs and at such time, it is a great need that these things that you have provided us will be used by the hospital,” he assured.In addition, the Redemption Hospital’s Medical Director lamented that people still doubt that the virus is in the country. However, he added: “I can assure you that as the MD of Redemption Hospital the sickness is real, nobody should take this Ebola lightly.”For his part, the Acting General Administrator of Redemption Hospital, Dominic W.
