Both Grahek and his passenger, Monrovia resident Charles Currey, escaped with minor injuries. Mike Fergus of the Federal Aviation Administration said investigators determined that the nose landing gear of the airplane collapsed. The airport in the 12600 block of Osborne Street is one of five that are managed by the county Department of Public Works. PACOIMA – A four-seater plane crashed about 10 a.m. Thursday while landing at Whiteman Airpark, destroying the aircraft but resulting in only minor injuries to the pilot and passenger, authorities said. The Cessna 172 piloted by Dan Grahek of Palmdale landed hard on Runway 12, causing it to bounce back into the air, said Gary Boze of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. Grahek then applied full power with the wing flaps extended, which caused the aircraft to stall and the left wing to hit the ground. The plane then cartwheeled off the runway and into the infield area, Boze said, coming to rest near the administration building. The airfield was closed for about an hour. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations! You’re all set!
