first_imgA 25-year-old Dublin man was sentenced to a month in prison after becoming ‘very aggressive and highly agitated’ during a public order incident in Ballybofey.Dermot Dowd, 4 Allenton Gardens, Tallaght, is currently serving a prison sentence at Wheatfield Prison, and appeared via video link at Falcarragh District Court. Garda Inspector Sean Grant said Dowd was in a group who had been abusive in the Navenny Street area of Ballybofey on December 27, 2016.When Gardai asked Dowd to leave the scene, he became ‘very aggressive and highly agitated’, the court was told.Dowd, who has a number of previous convictions, was charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and intoxication in a public place.Solicitor for Dowd, Patsy Gallagher, said his client had alcohol issues.“He moved to Donegal to get away from a certain regime in Dublin,” the solicitor said.Dowd, who is due for release from Wheatfield on November 23, was given a one-month sentence by Judge Paul Kelly on each of the charges.
