first_imgA man has suffered two broken legs and other injuries after he was struck by a car while trying to stop raiders from robbing his truck.The man was attending a wake in Burnfoot around 7.30pm when he noticed two men close to his truck.He approached them but they got into another car which was parked close to his vehicle. He tried to stop the men and managed to hang on to the door of their car as they headed towards the Bridgend Roundabout going towards Derry .However as the man held on, the driver swerved into the path of an oncoming car which struck the man hanging onto the car.Gardai have said the man is lucky to be alive.The man has ben hospitalised and is understood to have suffered two broken legs and other injuries. One of the first people on the scene was the Mayor of Buncrana, Peter McLaughlin who told Donegal Daily he could not sleep after the incident.“I didn’t see the man being dragged along by the car but I saw him afterwards.“It was horrific and he looked like he was I so much pain. I couldn’t sleep for thinking about him. I hope he is okay,” he said.He added that it was obvious the raiders were targeting cars in the area.“They were not out for a Sunday drive. They knew exactly what they were at,” he said. Garda Superintendent Eugene McGovern said they are looking for the whereabouts of a silver coloured car with a partial license plate of ‘TUI.’“We are anxious to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident and may know of the whereabouts of this car.“This man is lucky to be alive and this is a very serious matter.
