A few weeks ago, it was reported that Aamir Khan will don the role of a spaceman in his next, where he will be playing astronaut Rakesh Sharma who was the first Indian to travel to space. ALSO READ: This is what Sushant Singh Rajput has to say about playing MS DhoniAccording to a report in Times of India, Sushant Singh Rajput will be seen playing an astronaut in “India’s first space odyssey” titled Chandamama Door Ke, to be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chahuan.Chahuan is best known for directing 2010’s sports drama Lahore based on the duel between an Indian and Pakistani kickboxer on which hung the fate of the peace process between India and Pakistan. Sushant was set to be a part of director Shekhar Kapur’s Paani, a futuristic science fiction film based on the global water crisis. Unfortunately, Yash Raj Films, the studio that was backing the film pulled out of the project.advertisementSanjay Puran Singh Chahuan, who has researched extensively on the project said, “Our story isn’t based on anyone in particular but is inspired by multiple incidents that occurred in the past. It traces the journey of India’s space programme and culminates with the country’s first astronaut landing on the moon in 2017-18.”The makers of the film have reportedly reached out to the technical team which was worked on notable Hollywood space-themed blockbusters such as Star Trek, Apollo 13 and Armageddon. Viki Rajani, one of the producers of the film is collaborating with a leading Indian studio for the project.”While it is a fictional film based on true facts of India’s space mission, we hope to match the standards of international movies. Along with special effects and VFX technicians from Hollywood, we’re thoroughly prepared for our reel space mission.” said Rajani.Sushant will be next seen in Neeraj Pandey’s sports biopic M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story based on the life and times of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Indian cricket team’s captain in limited overs format.
